Crowd of graduates from Lincoln High watching the choir sing at graduation

On Friday, Lincoln Public Schools announced the official enrollment submitted to the Nebraska Department of Education for the 2026-2027 school year.

As of October 1, there were 41,265 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade attending LPS. This is a decrease of 675 students from the previous year.

“These numbers clearly reflect what we already knew. We continue to see the larger grade-level cohorts in the upper grades and graduating out while smaller grade-level cohorts are entering at the elementary grade levels,” said LPS Associate Superintendent for Educational Services Mike Gillotti.

Other highlights from the numbers released include:

  • Elementary enrollment declined by 426 students compared to last year while early childhood numbers increased by 131 students.

  • Middle school enrollment declined by 148 students and there were 232 less high school students.

  • The largest elementary school is Roper with 883 students, followed by Kooser with 876.

  • The elementary schools with the largest increases were Robinson with 48, McPhee with 29 and Adams with 24.

  • The largest middle school continues to be Scott with 995 students, followed by Schoo with 973.

  • The middle schools with the largest increases were Moore with 54, Mickle with 10, and Lefler with seven. Park increased by one student while all other middle schools saw a decrease in enrollment.

  • Lincoln High School is the largest high school with 1,974, followed by North Star with 1,866.

  • All of the LPS high schools continue to be under 2,000 students.

  • Standing Bear saw the biggest increase with 155 students followed by Northwest adding 83 students.

  • The senior class continues to be the largest class at LPS with 3,588, followed by the junior class with 3,277.

The full 2026-2027 LPS District Statistics Booklet is still being compiled and will be posted on the website here soon. The community can view past statistic handbooks on the same page.
