School board member Lanny Boswell dies after battle with cancer

The Lincoln Board of Education and Lincoln Public Schools shared on Thursday that school board member Lanny Boswell died Wednesday after an 18-month battle with oral cancer. Boswell was finishing his third term on the Lincoln Board of Education at the end of May - serving the students, staff, families and community for 12 years.

Meet LPS Focus Program Scholar: Sydney, Bryan College of Health Sciences

Lincoln Public Schools Focus Programs are a customized high school experience rooted in connection and opportunities. LPS offers our scholars - like Northwest senior Sydney - almost a dozen focus programs to experience. Inspired by healthcare professionals in her family like her mom, she decided to explore the Bryan College of Health Sciences Focus Program. The program is uniquely offered at Northwest High School as one of our embedded offerings. It has also paved the way for her to be accepted to the college’s nursing program after graduation.

Brad Jacobsen named Associate Superintendent for Civic Engagement

Lincoln Public Schools Interim Superintendent John Skretta announced on Friday that Brad Jacobsen from Ashland-Greenwood will be the next Associate Superintendent for Civic Engagement starting on July 1, 2025. Jacobsen will replace Skretta who was named interim superintendent by the Lincoln Board of Education in January.

The legacy of civil rights leaders Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Leola Bullock marched on during the 30th anniversary of the MLK Youth Rally Jan.19. This year’s theme was “Subscribe: A Walk Together in Love.” King’s words of “Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love,” and this generation’s social media usage inspired it.

Meet LPS Focus Program Scholar: JaiXian, Science

Lincoln Public Schools Focus Programs are a customized high school experience rooted in connection and opportunities. LPS offers our scholars - like Northeast ninth grade student JaiXian - almost a dozen focus programs to experience. His love for animals led him to choose his journey with the Science Focus Program – our original focus program. JaiXian’s seventh grade visit to it and noticing its proximity to the Lincoln Children’s Zoo sealed the deal. Lincoln Board of Education to vote on interim superintendent appointment Tuesday

The Lincoln Board of Education announced Friday they will consider the appointment of John Skretta as interim superintendent at the next regular meeting scheduled Tuesday, Jan. 14. Skretta currently serves as the Lincoln Public Schools associate superintendent for Civic Engagement, a position he began in July 2024.
