Lincoln Public Schools is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all persons, including people with disabilities. LPS’s website endeavors to comply with Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act and the best practices and standards as set forth in level AA of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1.

We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. At this time, Lincoln Public Schools is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA.

Measures to support accessibility

Lincoln Public Schools takes the following measures to ensure accessibility on our websites:

  • Show a preference for simple, well-organized and hierarchical content over style for the sake of style 
  • Use semantically correct page markup — ensuring that devices and software can correctly interpret and describe page content.
  • Consistently use high-contrast, easy-to-read typefaces
  • Encourage continual accessibility discussions among our communications staff — always looking for ways to make our content as accessible to all audiences as possible.

The accepted current accessibility benchmarks at Lincoln Public Schools are to pass both the aXe Accessibility Engine available as a part of Google’s Lighthouse Tools for Web Developers as well as the WAVE (webaim.org) evaluation.
