Construction Update
Eleven construction projects underway
As the new year begins, Lincoln High School will wind up massive renovations, Lincoln East High School will continue toward completion in the summer of 2010, and 11 construction projects will be underway or heading toward bids.
The 11 projects, totaling $82,080,000, are funded by four sources. According to Mark Shepard, Associate Superintendent for Business Affairs, funding sources include:
$11,500,000 in savings from the original 2006 bond election.
$11,550,000 from the building fund.
$21,030,000 from combined bond investment income and proceeds.
$38,000,000 from the Qualified Capital Purposes Undertaking Fund* that allows school districts to levy up to 5.2 cents to fund projects through the current budget OR issue bonds and fund the payments of interest and principal not to exceed 10 years.
*QCPUF projects must meet one or more criteria including eliminating barriers, environmental hazards or mold – modifying life safety code violations, or indoor air quality.
Of the 11 construction projects, Goodrich Middle School is the most extensive and will cost $14,000,000. Students and staff were relocated to Dawes Middle School to make way for major renovations including facility additions and renovations, as well as indoor air quality.
