Students get visit from alum, grammy-winning pop rock guitarist

James Valentine - Southeast High School 1996 graduate and Maroon 5 guitar player  - returned to his alma mater this week to talk to the Southeast Jazz Ensemble I about his life and career as a musician.

Valentine spent 90 minutes being interviewed by director Bob Krueger as well as answering questions from students about the music industry and about how he made the progression from being a high school jazz guitar player at LSE to becoming a Grammy Award winner and internationally recognized rock star.

Valentine also autographed the school’s guitar that he played in high school and sat in with Jazz Ensemble I on his old instrument. In addition, current and former LSE principals Brent Toalson and Dr. Pat Hunter-Pirtle presented Valentine with a Southeast High School Distinguished Alumni plaque.

Valentine was in town with Maroon 5 to perform at Pinnacle Bank Arena as part of their 2016 tour.
