You're invited: Open House at LPS Welcome Center for English Learners

As part of Lincoln’s Welcoming Week activities, LPS would like to invite the community to an open house at the Welcome Center for English Learners on Friday, Sept, 13, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at 936 N. 70th Street (the north side of the Meadowlane Shopping Center).

Please join us for some international treats and tea, as well as a tour and to visit with our staff to learn more about the services provided to English Language students in LPS!

The Welcome Center is where LPS assesses the language skills of each student in preparation for school registration, with staff helping to complete required paperwork. A home language survey is first administered to determine if a student is a potential English Learner (EL) student, and if so, a language proficiency assessment is administered to determine eligibility and language level within LPS. School registration is then completed at the new student’s school.

There are just over 3,400 students that are identified as English Learners throughout LPS.
