Meet LPS Focus Program Scholar: Mia, Bryan Community

Lincoln Public Schools Focus Programs are a customized high school experience rooted in connection and opportunities.

LPS offers almost a dozen focus programs for our scholars, like junior Mia, to choose their journeys.

Mia chose the Bryan Community Focus Program for its smaller school learning community after a recommendation from a LPS staff member.

Read more about Mia’s Bryan Community Focus Program experience in this Q&A as she is one of our featured Focus Program Scholars.

Name:  Mia

Home High School: Northeast High School

Grade: 11

Focus Program: Bryan Community

Why did you choose the Bryan Community Focus Program?

Class at a normal high school was too stressful. I was falling behind on credits. At Bryan, I like that you can have closer relationships with teachers and more one-on-one work with teachers here.

What do you like most about the Bryan Community Focus Program?

I like the teachers and the classes.

What makes the Bryan Community Focus Program?

Bryan is different because it’s small and there are fewer people.

How do you get to explore your passions or interests at the Bryan Community Focus Program?

I like club days at Bryan. I do the art and coloring club. I also like assemblies where we learn about opportunities for the future. For example, The Bay came to talk about the Gap Year program.

How has attending the Bryan Community Focus Program empowered you as a student?

I was able to complete additional classes and will be graduating early.

What are your relationships with other students and staff like at the Bryan Community Focus Program?

I have close relationships, especially with teachers.

How has being a part of a LPS Focus Program added to your high school experience?

Bryan encouraged me to finish high school.

How has the Bryan Community Focus Program prepared you for the future?

Career days and field trips have helped me think about the future.

Why are focus programs like the Bryan Community Focus Program important to high school students?

It’s small so you can get to know people and build closer relationships, which is good.

Choose your passion. Choose your community. Choose your future with LPS Focus Programs.
