Changes to MLK Youth Rally on Jan. 15 due to challenging weather conditions

Due to the ongoing challenging weather conditions, organizers of the 29th Annul Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Rally have announced changes to the program format and dates.

“This was not an easy decision to make knowing the planning committee and stakeholders have made significant investments in this incredibly unique celebration and that the community looks forward to the rally every year,” said Peter Ferguson, rally lead adult advisor. “We need to prioritize the health and safety of the committee, partners, employees and auxiliary support staff who help make the rally possible.”

Changes to the rally include:

  • Monday, Jan. 15: VIRTUAL ONLY, NO IN PERSON EVENT. A pre-recorded program will be streamed from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on all LNKTV platforms. The program will include learning segments, insight and speeches from Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., prior rally segments and previews of new parts unveiled on Jan. 19 and 20.
  • Friday, Jan. 19: LIVESTREAM ONLY. The 29th annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Rally Call to Action program will be live-streamed from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on all LNKTV platforms. This program will be abbreviated to encourage and promote viewing by schools and youth and adult organizations. A discussion guide is available on the Rally website.
  • Saturday, Jan. 20: IN PERSON ONLY. The 29th annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Rally Call to Action Program will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Centennial Room, at the Nebraska Union on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. In-person attendees get a chance to win stakeholder giveaways and exclusive content to be unveiled.  There will be no livestreaming of the event.

Ferguson added, “For 29 years, we have enjoyed connecting with our ever-growing audience to promote the life and dreams of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by promoting positive youth action. We are dedicated to upholding the memory of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by providing these three alternate opportunities to celebrate his legacy.”

Thanks to the City of Lincoln, the virtual and live-streamed aspects of the 2024 experience will be available via the LNKTV Education website and cable access channels (Allo – 23, Charter Spectrum – 1303), LNKTV YouTube channel, and the City of Lincoln Facebook page.
