New Educator Spotlight: Makaila Peltier

Every week, we will be featuring one of our new LPS educators to get to know a little more about them and why they chose to be an educator. This week's New Educator Spotlight is Makaila Peltier, 6th grade math and Design Thinking teacher at Lefler Middle School.

Building/Department: Lefler Middle School / 6th grade

Teaching Assignment/Role: 6th Grade Math and Design Thinking

Why did you want to become an educator?
I wanted to become an educator after growing up around many wonderful teachers. There seem to be three common characteristics among the teachers whom I admired most: selflessness, patience, and kindness. I idolized these individuals so much for these attributes that I wanted to be just like them.

Did you attend Lincoln Public Schools as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
I am originally from Concordia, KS and graduated from Concordia Jr/Sr High School.

Where did you attend college?
I attended college at Fort Hays State University where I earned my B.S. in Elementary Education.

Describe a time that you knew you made a difference for a student or group of students.
As a teacher, I strive to create positive learning experiences for my students. I wanted to show my students their efforts over this school year have paid off. I conferenced with every student individually to tell them that each of them showed improvement on tests from the beginning of the year until now. The proud smiles on their faces is a memory I will never forget.
