School Attendance Area Assignment Changes for 2022-23

In September 2021, the Lincoln Board of Education approved adjustments to attendance area assignments beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. Families can see if their home school assignment may have changed for next school year by using the School Lookup feature on the LPS website. Below are important reminders for families who may be impacted by the changes. If you have any questions, please contact Student Services at (402)436-1688.

Elementary School Students (grades K-5)

Robinson Elementary School

Families with students identified living in the new Robinson Elementary School attendance area will automatically be enrolled at Robinson Elementary School for the 2022-23 school year. If you wish for your student to remain at the elementary school they currently attend, you will need to contact your current school office as soon as possible and make them aware you wish for your child to remain at their current school.**

Other Elementary Schools

If your child currently attends an elementary school, but your assigned school attendance area has changed, your child will continue to attend the school where they are currently attending.**

  • If you want them to remain at their current school for the 2022-23 school year, there is nothing more you need to do.
  • If you want them to attend the new school they are assigned to for the 2022-23 school year, you will need to contact your current school office as soon as possible and make them aware of the change for the Fall of 2022.

If you have a younger child that is not yet attending school, they will automatically be assigned to the new school when you enroll them for kindergarten (enrollment opens January 1, 2022).

  • If you want them to attend the new school assignment for the 2022-23 school year, there is nothing more you need to do.
  • If you want them to remain at the same school as their older siblings for the 2022-23 school year, you will need to contact your current school office as soon as possible and make them aware of the change for the Fall of 2022.** You will also need to fill out this permit form.

**Please note: If your child receives Special Education services and qualifies for transportation your child must attend their assigned school in order to continue transportation services. For questions about Special Education and transportation, contact Kari Shaw at (402)436-1905.

Middle School Students (grades 6-8)

If your child currently attends a middle school, but your assigned school attendance area has changed, your child will continue to attend the school where they are currently attending for the Fall of 2022.

  • If you want them to remain at their current school for the 2022-23 school year, there is nothing more you need to do.**
  • If you want them to attend the new school they are assigned to for the 2022-23 school year, you will need to contact your current school office as soon as possible and make them aware of the change for the Fall of 2022.

  • If you want them to remain at the new school assignment for the 2022-23 school year, there is nothing more you need to do.
  • If you want them to attend the same school as their older siblings for the 2022-23 school year, you will need to contact your current school office as soon as possible and make them aware of the change for the Fall of 2022.** You will also need to fill out this permit form.

High School Students (grades 9-12)

Northwest High School

Incoming 9th grade students living in the assigned attendance area will automatically be enrolled at Northwest High School unless they fill out the High School Choice Form prior to January 31, 2022. Learn more about the High School Choice process and 8th Grade Information Nights below.

Families can learn more about this newest high school and the Bryan College of Health Sciences Focus Program by visiting their website or attending any of the three in-person informational meetings starting at 6:30pm:

  • Monday, Jan. 10, held at Schoo Middle School
  • Wednesday, Jan. 12 held at Roper Elementary School
  • Wednesday, Jan. 19 held at Arnold Elementary School

Students who will be in grades 10-12 during the 2022-23 school year will remain enrolled at their current high school. Students will need to complete the following steps if they wish to attend Northwest High School:

  1. Fill out the High School Choice Form by January 31, 2022 and be accepted into Northwest High School.
  2. To meet the NSAA activity and athletics eligibility requirements for the 2022-23 school year, students currently enrolled in high school during the 2021-22 school year will need to contact the LNW athletic department (email rpsencik@lps.org) once they are accepted into the school and indicate their transfer prior to May 1, 2022. Please note: Any student who has already used their May 1 NSAA transfer option will have to meet other transfer eligibility requirements or be ineligible for varsity competition for the first 90 school days during the 2022-23 school year. Contact your school’s athletic director with any questions.
  3. Students in grades 10-12 who miss the May 1 deadline will be ineligible for varsity competitions for the first 90 school days during the 2022-23 school year.

Other High Schools

Grades 10-12

If your child currently attends a high school, but your assigned school attendance area has changed, your child will continue to be enrolled and attend the high school where they are currently attending.**

  1. Fill out the High School Choice Form by January 31, 2022 and be accepted into the high school of choice.
  2. To meet the NSAA activity and athletics eligibility requirements for the 2022-23 school year, students currently enrolled in high school during the 2021-22 school year will need to contact the athletic department of the new choice once they are accepted into the school and indicate their transfer prior to May 1, 2022. Please note: Any student who has already used their May 1 NSAA transfer option will have to meet other transfer eligibility requirements or be ineligible for varsity competition for the first 90 school days during the 2022-23 school year. Contact your school’s athletic director with any questions.

Incoming 9th Grade Students

Each student is assigned to a high school based on their address on file as of November 30, 2021. You can see which high school your child is assigned to attend on our website here.

  • If you move to a different address after this date, you will need to update your address with the school your child currently attends AND complete the High School Choice form by January 31, 2022 to be certain that your child is listed for the high school you intend.
  • If you want your child to attend a high school other than the home high school assigned to your address, you will need to submit the High School Choice form by the January 31 deadline.

Incoming 9th grade students have the opportunity to choose which high school they wish to attend, but must submit the choice form by January 31, 2022. Information events for the seven LPS high schools* in January are an important component of the transition process and families are encouraged to attend as many events as possible to find the right fit. The events are designed to share information about the opportunities available at each school. 

All events are in person and start at 6:30pm:

  • Northwest High School:
    • Monday, Jan. 10, 2022 held at Schoo Middle School
    • Wednesday, Jan. 12 held at Roper Elementary School
    • Wednesday, Jan. 19 held at Arnold Elementary School
  • Southwest High School: Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022
  • East High School: Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022
  • Northeast High School: Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022
  • Southeast High School: Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022
  • North Star High School: Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022
  • Lincoln High School: Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022

* Some students choose to participate in one of the focus or specialty programs offered in LPS – Science Focus Program, Arts & Humanities Focus Program, JROTC program at Northeast, The College and Career STEM Program at Northeast, The Bryan College of Health Sciences Program at Northwest, Bryan Community Focus Program, International Baccalaureate (IB), The Bay Focus Program, or The Career Academy. Students enrolled in a focus or specialty program are also enrolled as a student in one of the seven comprehensive LPS high schools.
