New Educator Spotlight: Blake Tobey

Every week, we'll be featuring one of our new LPS educators to get to know a little more about them and why they chose to be an educator. This week it's Blake Tobey.

Building/Department: Mickle Middle School

Teaching Assignment/Role: English 8, 8D, Yearbook and Drama

Why did you want to become an educator? Today's students are tomorrow's leaders, and I want to do anything I can to help them be prepared to shape our world into a better one.

What has been your favorite part of working for Lincoln Public Schools? This district really focuses on the most important aspects of education. As a teacher, I feel empowered to teach and nurture the whole student and not just focus on their grades.

Where did you attend college? Doane University

What is your favorite part of being an educator? There is no better moment in teaching than when a student is sharing what they're passionate about. I love it when they discover their passions within the context of what we're learning.

Describe a time that you knew you made a difference for a student or group of students. Every so often, former students reach out to me to share how something we learned or discussed or experienced has come back to help them in their adult life. It is always a beautiful reminder of why I do what I do.

What is a fun fact about you? I'm a theatre and performing arts fanatic, I have almost a dozen plants in my classroom (all with names), and I ran my first marathon in May 2021!
