'A village' helps students at Yankee Hill graduate

On May 18, four eager faces stared back at the familiar faces gathered in the gym to celebrate their accomplishment. Jesse Anderson, Emily Johnson, Arkese McCullough and Trenton Rittenhouse completed the required coursework and are the latest alumns of Yankee Hill Education Center.

Thanking his teachers from Calvert Elementary, Pound Middle and Southeast High schools along with Yankee Hill staff, senior speaker Arkese McCullough told the crowd there will always be people who believe in you.

"The saying ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ is no joke. As I think about the last 12 years of school, I realize now that with every stupid decision I made I was already surrounded by loving and caring people - my village," added McCullough.

Pete Ferguson, LPS youth development team coordinator, was the recognition speaker.
