2012-2013 Closure Procedures

School Closure Day

Employee GroupWork ResponsibilityCompensation

All 260-day employees, all Office Professionals, all Custodians, all Administrators, all MFD employees, and all Technicians who do not work with students 

Will work.

If the employee is unable to work, he/she will utilize appropriate leave or receive no compensation. 

Paraeducators

Will not work.

Employees are compensated for the first school closure day. Then the employee will utilize emergency leave, then a maximum of two sick leave days, and then available special leave. Employees without these types of leave will receive no compensation 

Technicians who work directly with students and work less than the 260-day calendar. 

Generally will not work. If there is adequate work and supervision, the supervisor may require the employee to work. 

Employee will utilize emergency leave and then special leave. Employees without these types of leave will receive no compensation. In some instances, employees may be allowed to make up time. 

Nutrition Services

Will not work unless notified differently by Edith Zumwalt 

Employees are compensated for the first school closure day. Then the employee will utilize emergency leave and then special leave. Employees without these types of leave will receive no compensation. 

Transportation Will not work.

Employees are compensated for the first school closure day. The employee will utilize emergency leave, then special leave and finally a maximum of two sick leave days. Employees without these types of leave will receive no compensation. 

Non-Administrative Certificated Will not work.

Employees will not be required to make up the first two closure days. If additional closure days occur, this information will be updated. 

District Closure Day

Office Professionals, Custodians, Administrators, MFD, All 260-Day Employees, and Technicians who do not work with students 

Only emergency personnel will work. Emergency personnel are employees responsible for snow removal or employees otherwise designated as emergency personnel by their supervisor. All employees within the Maintenance Department (including office professionals and technicians) are considered emergency personnel and are expected to work. 

Personnel will generally be paid as if worked. If an administrator or classified staff member does not actually work on the workday prior to or the workday after the district closure day, the employee must use appropriate leave or receive no compensation. 

Paraeducators and Technicians who work directly with students 

Nutrition Services
Transportation
Non-Administrative Certificated Will not work.

Note: The above procedures will generally be followed for the first five closure days within a school year. The district can deviate from these procedures as necessary and when allowed by the agreements with the employee groups.
