Sustainability Spotlight: Outstanding Custodians

Lincoln Public Schools strives to bring sustainability efforts to each of our buildings, whether that be through waste initiatives, growing gardens, or environmental clubs. To achieve waste initiatives, like recycling and composting at all of our schools, custodians play a huge role in managing those waste efforts. This month’s Sustainability Spotlight features just a few of the many custodians throughout the district that are helping LPS be more sustainable [more].

Recycling Reminder: Tissue Boxes

It is that time of year when our schools are going through LOTS of boxes of tissues! The empty tissue boxes are a material called ‘Paper Board’ or sometimes called ‘Chipboard’. This thin material is different from corrugated cardboard and can actually go in with the Mixed Office Paper category for recycling at LPS buildings.

GSRP TIP: Reviewing recycling procedures with staff and/or students earns your school 5 points in the Green Schools Recognition Program

HS Student Event - Interest Form

The LPS Sustainability Department is planning a student focused event and is looking for input from LPS high school students on the structure and topics.

This event is intended to be for anyone, whether they are already part of an environmental club and working on projects or if they are brand new to this topic and just want to start with some basics.

Please help us share this FORM with high school students across the district. Input will be collected through January 19th.

Saratoga hosts PLC day sustainability experience

Saratoga Elementary invited the LPS Sustainability team for the most recent PLC Day so their students could learn about resource conservation. Kindergarten and 1st grade met some decomposer worms and saw the finished compost from their cafeterias before doing a waste relay to become "Super Sorters". The 2nd & 3rd graders  learned about energy conservation and trained to become the Power Patrol for their school. The 4th & 5th graders also learned about energy conservation and made posters to help their school go green!

GSRP TIP: Creating a student Power Patrol earns your school 10 points for the Green Schools Recognition Program.

Reminder:10th Annual Holiday Lights Recycling Drive

The Recycle Holiday Lights Drive is still going on through January 10th at drop off sites all over Lincoln. There are collection bins located at all of the Lincoln Fire Stations, outside of the LPS Science Focus Program, and in the Eastridge Elementary parking lot.
