Oct. 15 deadline for suicide awareness/prevention training

Just a reminder, employee groups required to take the annual suicide awareness/prevention training must have that completed by the end of first quarter, Oct. 15. Unlike previous years, this year’s training is offered in-person - not online - and is offered at each building.

This year’s training utilizes the QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) method, which teaches people to recognize the warning signs of suicide and how to respond. The training session lasts approximately 1 hour.

Those required to take the training include: nurses, teachers, counselors, school psychologists, administrators, social workers, health technicians, treatment nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, sign language interpreters, service coordinators, SLPs, Bilingual Liaisons, Gifted Mentors, Youth Development Team members, Campus Security, Early Childhood Student Parent Advocates, and para educators including SEMs. Any employee who is not required to take the training, including substitutes, can still take it if they choose to do so.

There also will be four district sessions for new employees hired after the start of school, district staff and those unable to attend a school session. Those will be held Sept. 10, Oct. 13, Nov. 10 and Dec. 10. At the end of the training, you will be asked to complete a form. When you have completed the form you can download a certificate of completion. Save a copy and share with your supervisor.  All sessions can be found on Performance Matters and a Zoom link is shared if you want to attend remotely.
