Lincoln Board of Education Regular Meeting

Efficient, money-saving contract proposed for future LPS facility planning

Lincoln Public Schools is tentatively moving ahead with a money-saving, efficient measure – with proposed confirmation of a firm to provide architect, engineering and construction services for future high school projects.

The Lincoln Board of Education Tuesday considered a proposed contract with Clark Enersen Partners of Lincoln – forarchitectural/engineering professional services that would provide pre-bond schematic design services for future high schools, prior to a potential bond issue in 2020 – and, if a bond issue election is successful, to provide post-bond design and construction administration services.

The move will save the school district an estimated $2 to $3 million (depending on whether they build one or two high schools), as well as finishing construction earlier and more quickly relieving the high school enrollment crunch.

Five proposal responses were received from architectural and engineering firms for this project. All proposals were considered and interviews were held with the firms and their primary consulting partners. Selection was based on: (1) the ability of the proposing firm personnel to perform the project; (2) the character, integrity, reputation, judgment, experience, and efficiency of the proposing firm; (3)  the quality of performance of the proposing firm on previous projects; (4) the general capacity to perform the work; and (5) the financial resources to complete the project(s), including, but not limited to, confirmation of the ability to provide the required insurance and bonds.

The Board will take a final vote at the June 25 Board meeting.
