National organization honors Mickle social studies teacher

A national education group has honored Mickle Middle School teacher Doreen Ainslie as one of only 46 teachers in the country to receive an award that recognizes dedication to the profession, community engagement, professional development, attention to diversity and advocacy for fellow educators.

The NEA Foundation announced this week that Ainslie received the California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence. The winning teachers will be honored in February at the Salute to Excellence in Education Gala in Washington, D.C.

“This award is especially meaningful to me because it was voted on by fellow teachers,” said Ainslie, who teaches social studies and has been with Lincoln Public Schools since 1979.
