LPS Public Forum draws comments from 19 citizens

The Lincoln Board of Education hosted a Public Forum Monday evening at Lincoln Southwest High School about the proposed Lincoln Safe and Successful Kids Joint Public Agency (JPA).

The city of Lincoln and Lincoln Public Schools have been working together and are proposing a collaborative effort with the goal of “Safe and Successful Kids in our Community.”

The initiative would fund:

  •       New School Resource Officers.
  •       One additional threat assessment officer.
  •       Mental health services with one additional LPS social worker and additional student therapist services.
  •       An increase in leadership and staff to serve Community Learning Centers (CLCs).
  •       Academic and enrichment opportunities that lead to success for students

Board of Education President Lanny Boswell shared that he is working with City Council member Leirion Gaylor Baird to draft an interlocal agreement proposal to provide an alternative option for review and comparison – that will contribute to further discussion.

During the Public Forum, 19 Lincoln community members shared comments about the proposed JPA.

The Board will vote on a JPA proposal at its May 8 meeting.  For more information: https://home.lps.org/jpa.
