A team from Lincoln East High School recently finished first at the regional science bowl competition at Wayne State College and now advances to the national competition to be held in May in Washington, D.C.

It’s the second year in a row that East has sent a team to the National Science Bowl. The members of the team are juniors Alix Cui and Isaac Zhang, and seniors Jesse Lin, Daniel Laws and Lucas Bigelow. Science teachers Emily Jennings and Alicia Vossler coach the team.

During science bowl, teams are given a “toss-up” question and compete against another team to answer first. The winning team then receives a bonus question. At the Wayne State regional, there was a round-robin competition in the morning, followed by a double elimination tournament in the afternoon. The National Science Bowl will follow the same format.
