March Gladness is all about TEAM at Pound

Students and staff at Pound Middle School were readying themselves to pursue LPS's 3rd quarter Wellness Challenge, "March Gladness," by planning fun ways for students and staff to spread joy within our various "circles."

Students made & hung inspirational posters, planned a scavenger hunt of ways to spread joy, planned daily announcements to read over the PA system...lots of great stuff. Then, one student came up to a trusted staff member and said, "I think the best way for us to spread joy is to all get together to help Mrs. P (Sherri Pendergrass) and her family, and I think we should do it with a school-wide penny war ... and we should just say that it's for a family here at Pound that needs a little joy."

Mrs. P's family had recently experienced a house fire, which resulted in alternative housing and many unusual expenses. Audrey Krieger was the spark that lit the fire, figuratively speaking.

The idea took off immediately, and "Team Pound" came together to raise $400 in just 4 days of emptying pockets of coins before school. When the Penny War ended, it was announced that the money would be given to Mrs. P.

When Audrey presented the gift to Mrs. P., the tears flowed, the faces beamed, and 'March Gladness,' though very different from its original blueprint, was just what it needed to be.
