Recycling & Composting Reports

Environmental impact reports are now available for December 2023. As a result of recycling efforts, LPS saved:

  • 1,195 trees
  • 288,139 kWh of energy
  • 491,944 gallons of water
  • 232 cubic yards of local landfill space
  • 4,217 lbs of air pollution
  • 28,814 gallons of fuel

Sustainability Spotlight: Meet Some of the District’s Standout Custodians

Managing the custodial needs of an entire school takes serious dedication, especially when unexpected challenges arise. This month, we’re highlighting the work of custodians from three schools who have gone above and beyond to support their buildings’ students and staff. Mark Your Calendars for February 28th!

2024’s first Garden Gathering is nearly here! This event is free and open to anyone interested in gardens and outdoor learning. Northwest High School is hosting a rooftop garden tour, and our community partners will demonstrate how to start seeds indoors for spring planting. LPS Sets District Record for ENERGY STAR Certifications

A whopping 22 LPS buildings achieved ENERGY STAR certification for 2023! Certification requires energy efficiency greater than at least 75% of comparable buildings nationwide, and many of our certified buildings are in the top 10% for energy efficiency. Energy, Waste, and Worms at Rousseau Elementary

The Sustainability team recently visited Rousseau Elementary School for a Day Zero Sustainability Experience! Special thanks to Rousseau’s staff and Melissa Mercier from Uribe Refuse for helping make Tuesday such a great day of learning. Keep an eye on our social media for more photos soon!


Reduce Paper Towel Waste in Your School

Help your students reduce their paper towel waste with dispenser decals from LPS Sustainability! School staff can fill out an interest form and be added to our order planning. 

GSRP Tip: Send in your interest form now and earn 10 points once your decals are applied!


Are You Ready for Earth Day?

Earth Day isn’t until April 22nd, but it’s never too early to start planning! Our Earth Day Bingo cards are full of great activities to get students engaged and excited about Earth Day.

GSRP Tip: Many squares on each bingo card are eligible for Green Schools Recognition Program Points!


LPS Science and Engineering Fair Registrations Closing Soon

The LPS Science and Engineering Fair is scheduled for March 7th! Student participants and booth exhibitors can register until February 9th, and event volunteer applications are accepted through February 23rd. The LPS Science and Engineering Fair website has all the details!
