Are you interested in adding a pollinator garden to your schoolyard to enhance learning in an outdoor classroom? Do you have an area in full sun that would be a perfect spot for pollinator habitat?
Nebraska Wildlife Federation (NEWF) has grant funding to develop several 10 X 12 pollinator gardens during the 2018-2019 school year. NEWF provides guidance, design, seedlings, training, on-site support, and an attractive pollinator garden sign. Ongoing care for the garden is the responsibility of the school. Check out this Participation Form to read more about eligibility requirements and submit your information. Participation requests need to be submitted by Wednesday, October 5th.
Join thousands around the globe for Green Apple Day of Service. Create an account, register your projects, and start planning! Green Apple Day of Service projects bring school service and environmental sustainability together in one day of action. If you need help with fundraising, follow the prompts during registration to connect your Day of Service projects to DonorsChoose.org. Publishing your project before March 15, 2019 automatically nominates your project for a Green Apple Award. After your project is complete, update your project with pictures, event details, and impacts to enhance your award submission. We’re here to help make your efforts successful with planning tools, local volunteers, and mini-grants to boost your fundraising.
“Recycling is one of the easiest and most effective actions ANYONE can do to protect natural resources, conserve energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create jobs. Recycling also provides materials that are made into new products. Want to ignite recycling in your school? Friendly competition is a proven way to motivate young people toward adopting sustainable behaviors. Through Recycle-Bowl, we hope to galvanize or improve recycling in elementary, middle and high schools across America.”
The 2018 Keep America Beautiful Recycle Bowl will begin at schools across the country on October 15th and wrap up on America Recycles Day, November 15th! If your school is interested in participating in this national recycling competition, please send an e-mail to balbin@lps.org by October 5th with the name of a contact person for the registration. The Sustainability team will take care of the registration and all reporting, so you just focus on promoting recycling in your building!
The Arbor Day Foundation is looking for one LPS school to participate in their national Tree Campus K-12 Pilot Program. Check out this FLYER, along with this DESCRIPTION for more information about the program and what to expect. Please e-mail me at balbin@lps.org if you are interested in participating.
Join the celebration on October 10th by registering your own walk to school event HERE.
