The last call to submit activities for the Green Schools Recognition Program is coming up on May 1st. The recognition program engages staff, students, administrators, custodians, and families by encouraging them to complete activities that reduce the environmental impact of their school. These activities are generally designed to be carried out or directed by the school Green Team, but anyone is welcome to participate! With completion of these activities you can then earn points and funding for your school and future sustainability events!
Reporting your activity to get points is simple. Take a few photos while doing your activity and then submit them to us via the online points REPORTING FORM. The Sustainability office will review your submission and award your school points.
Two of our elementary schools have been recognized nationally through the Keep America Beautiful annual Recycle Bowl. Wysong Elementary was named a winner for the Food Scrap Collection category and Huntington Elementary was named a winner for the Waste Reduction category [more].

Our Scrap Metal Drive will be coming to a close soon, so remember to bring your scrap metal to Sadoff Iron and Metal Company or Alter Metal Recycling to have it recycled. All types of scrap metal will be accepted, including aluminum and tin cans, pots and pans, appliances, wiring, sinks, bathtubs and electric motors. When you arrive, tell them that you would like to donate all or part of the revenue from your metal to the LPS Recycling Program. Funds raised will help LPS replace worn out steel recycling containers. The old containers will be recycled as scrap metal and replaced with containers manufactured from recycled steel, closing the recycling loop.
