Belmont and Irving awarded ENERGY STAR certifications

We are excited to announce that Belmont Elementary and Irving Middle School were recently announced as 2021 Energy Star Certified buildings! For more than 20 years, the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Program has identified the most energy-efficient products and buildings. The Energy Star Certification program looks at a building’s usage, utilities, occupancy, energy performance and more to generate an energy efficiency score. This year, LPS applied to get two buildings certified, Belmont and Irving. To earn this certification, both buildings had to meet a strict energy performance standard set by the EPA. Specifically, it had to be more energy efficient and perform better than 75% of similar buildings nationwide (score of 75). Both buildings were above and beyond in efficiency and earned efficiency scores of 95 at Belmont and 98 at Irving.

Congratulations to the students and staff at both buildings!

Goodwill Electronics Recycling Drive

Goodwill is hosting its fifth annual electronics recycling drive on Saturday, January 8. The event will be held from 10 am to 2 pm at the Vine Street Goodwill store. Thanks to Goodwill’s recycling partnership with Dell Reconnect, donors can drop off electronics of any brand and in any condition. Working electronics will be sold in Goodwill thrift stores, where the revenue funds local programs that help job seekers overcome traditional barriers to employment. Nonworking electronics will be refurbished or responsibly recycled. Donors who are unable to attend the event can bring their electronics to any Lincoln or York Goodwill location year-round during designated donation hours.

9th Annual Holiday Lights Recycling Drive

The 9th Annual Recycle Holiday Lights Drive benefiting Eastridge Elementary School PTO, the Science Focus Program, and Lincoln Fire Fighters has arrived!  Lights are collected from November 15th - January 10th at drop off sites all over Lincoln. You can drop off lights in collection bins at all of the Lincoln Fire Stations, outside of the LPS Science Focus Program, and in the Eastridge Elementary parking lot. Over the past eight years more than 80,000 pounds of holiday lights have been recycled through this program.

Lights will be collected from their stations and delivered to Scrap Central Inc. in Omaha. Lights can be in working or nonworking condition. The different components are separated and recycled. Scrap Central will pay $0.40 per pound for the recycled lights. The proceeds are then distributed among different organizations- 25% of funds raised from recycled holiday lights will be donated to Lincoln Fire Fighters Operation Warm, 25% of funds raised will be donated to the Science Focus Program, and 50% of funds will go to the Eastridge Elementary PTO. This funding benefits PTO initiatives like purchasing coding robots, ukuleles for the music rooms and special gym equipment.
