Recycling & Composting Reports

Environmental impact reports are now available for September 2023. As a result of recycling efforts, LPS saved:

  • 1,208 trees
  • 291,435 kWh of energy
  • 497,572 gallons of water
  • 235 cubic yards of local landfill space
  • 4,265 lbs of air pollution
  • 29,144 gallons of fuel

Nov. 8 Garden Gathering Reminder

Our second quarter Garden Gathering is coming up fast! Attendees can enter to win a Lettuce Grow Farmstand complete with pH testing and nutrient kits, plus a set of 24 seedlings courtesy of the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln. Register today if we’ll see you at Roper on November 8th!

Trees in the Classroom Signup Deadline Approaching

Bring the forest into your classroom next spring! Instructors of 2nd and 3rd graders can register for free tree seedlings through the Nebraska Forest Service and the Papio-Missouri and Lower Platte South NRDs. Get all the details here and be sure to register by November 17th.

GSRP Tip: Submit each of the 6 Project Learning Tree activities included in this unit to earn 60 points.


Pumpkin Compost Drop Off

Stop by the Uribe Refuse Service Office at 4600 N 48th St on November 6th, 7th, or 8th between 8am - 3pm to compost your pumpkins for free!


Scrap Metal Drive begins Nov. 15

Beginning November 15th, bring your scrap metal to a participating facility and ask to have all or part of the recycling revenue donated to the LPS Recycling Program! Our website has all the details about what can be recycled and where to drop it off.


PLC Day Sustainability Experiences

Saratoga, Holmes, and Randolph elementaries recently brought in the Sustainability Team for PLC Day Sustainability Experiences. Activities centered around what plants need to grow and how we use and can conserve energy. Let us know you’re interested by completing this form–there are still a few dates available this school year!

GSRP Tip: Hosting a PLC Day Sustainability Experience earns 20 points for your school.


Walk to School Day Recap
