Lincoln Solar Tour

A team from the LPS Operations Department recently toured some local renewable energy installations. The day started off at the Lincoln Electric System Solar Facility which has 15,333 panels and generates enough energy to power about 900 homes. Next up were the 164 rooftop solar panels at the University of Nebraska Lincoln – Animal Science Building. LPS has not yet installed any renewable energy, but the district has a long history of constructing new buildings and renovating existing buildings to be as efficient as possible. We appreciate the opportunity to learn from the experiences of community partners and explore the future possibilities for LPS.

EV Charging Stations Update

LPS was able to install 7 Electric Vehicle Charging stations in August of 2020, and we are happy to share an update on their use in that first year. There have been over 600 charging sessions across the 7 charging locations! Those sessions avoided 2,890 kg of greenhouse gas emissions, which is the equivalent of planting 74 trees and letting them grow for 10 years. We have also seen their use increase over time, with 114 charging sessions recorded in September 2021. We are excited to see how these stations continue to be used in the community in their second year!

It’s never too late to join the Green Schools Recognition Program

The points are rolling in from our Green Schools Recognition Program activities. Several schools have already reported activities including having green team meetings, growing plants, and creating a tip of the week to include in daily bulletins. Beattie Elementary even hosted their first Family Garden Night of the year where families came to help pull weeds and participate in a scavenger hunt.
