Recycling and composting report January 2023 

Environmental impact reports are now available for January. As a result of recycling efforts last month, LPS saved:

  • 1,225 trees
  • 295,544 kWh of energy
  • 504,588 gallons of water
  • 238 cubic yards of local landfill space
  • 4,325 lbs of air pollution
  • 29,554 gallons of fuel

Sustainability Spotlight: Student Leaders

This month’s Sustainability Spotlight is shining on student leaders who attended our first ever Students of Sustainability (S.O.S.) Summit. The summit highlighted the environmental clubs run by the students, emphasized the importance of student voices, and included breakout sessions on topics of sustainable living and gardens. Many of the students that attended are leading sustainable efforts at their schools through fundraising, promotional efforts, and raising awareness on important environmental issues. [more]


2022 ENERGY STAR Certifications

This year, Lincoln Public Schools earned ENERGY STAR certification for nine buildings, making us an official member of EPA’s Certification Nation! [more]

3rd Quarter Garden Gathering

Thank you to Community Crops for hosting our 3rd Quarter Garden Gathering at their greenhouse! Those who attended were able to learn about seed starting and get prepared for spring. 


Cans4Books Recycling Drive 

The Cans4Books Recycling Drive is back and we are excited to share that you can start dropping off cans even earlier this year! Bring your aluminum cans to Green Quest Recycling March 1st - April 30th and donate the proceeds to your school library. For more details, check out the Cans4Books Flyer.

Earth Day Resources

Earth Day is coming up soon on Saturday, April 22nd! To help our schools celebrate, we have organized a list of activities and resources into LPS Earth Day activity cards for grades K – 2, 3 – 5, and 6 – 12. The activities are organized by topics including energy, consumption and waste, climate action, water, and the great outdoors.
