    LPS continues to monitor improving state assessment scores 

    Lincoln Public Schools monitors student progress and achievement in a broad variety of ways, and results from the 2013-14 Nebraska State Accountability (NeSA) scores – the piece of the achievement puzzle based on state standards – were released to the public on Tuesday and show steady improvement at LPS as well as above-state-average numbers in most grades and subject areas.

    Student Serve 2014

    Student Serve is a student-led, district-wide initiative committed to instilling civic responsibility and preserving democratic ideology in students by promoting behaviors of good citizenship in their local, national, and global communities.     We are excited that you are part of our Spartan Community! This year, East High School welcomes 1603 students along with 135 teachers and support staff. During the summer we had a great deal of activity – from summer school, drivers education, various camps ranging from Band, to Show Choir to Athletics.     EAST FBLA TEAM TAKES FIRST AT NATIONALS

    Ojus Jain, Elliot Sandfort and Alicia Zeng won first place at the national Future Business Leaders of America conference. The trio won the title in the Global Business competition held in Nashville, Tenn. East's FBLA sponsor is Lori Anderson. Jain and Zeng are incoming sophomores, while Sandfort graduated in May.

    As a new school year begins, LPS is launching Synergy, a new Student Information System. The Synergy parent portal, called Synergy ParentVUE, replaces the Pinnacle Internet Viewer (PIV) that has been used the last several years.

    East two-mile relay team breaks records, wins gold

    The Lincoln East 3,200-meter relay team of sophomores Rachel Dweikat and Alana Sesow, and juniors Morgan Applegarth and Alexis Altmaier wins the All Class Gold Medal. Not only that, the foursome did so in record fashion, breaking the state record, the Class A Record and the All Class state record.

    Links pull off district upset

    Lincoln High School baseball pulled off one of the upsets of the year, knocking off the top seed in their district in the opening round. It was the fifth win of the Links season. LHS gave up at least one run in each of the first four innings. But they shutout Millard South in the final three innings, and added three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to win 8-6.

    Southwest boys claim state soccer title

    With one goal and outstanding defense, Lincoln Southwest High School won the boys state soccer championship match against Omaha Westside. The Silver Hawks won the state opener 4-1 over Millard West, and won the semifinal match 2-0 over South Sioux City. Southwest finished the season with an 18-1 record.

    Vladislav Blazhievskiy won the 500-yard freestyle race at State Swimming, helping the Lincoln Southwest High School boys teams to a second-place finish.

    Northeast clinches state berth with game-winning bucket

    Lincoln Northeast boys basketball returned to the state tournament with a dramatic win over Millard West in the district final. Peyton Helmstadter’s jumper with 6 seconds left gave the Rockets a 38-36 win, and its first trip to state in eight years.

    Southeast football waits out two-day storm delay for victory

    The Southeast-Norfolk football game was postponed from a Thursday night with severe weather in the area. When the game was postponed, it was the beginning of the third quarter and the score was LSE 9, Norfolk 20. When the game resumed, two days later, on a Saturday morning, LSE tied the game at 20-20 with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter. The Knights then went on to win in overtime, 26-20. The Knights capped-off their season by qualifying for the Class A playoffs.

    Jeralyn Poe Wins Third Cross Country State Title

    Jeralyn Poe, a junior at Lincoln North Star High School, won her third state individual title at the State Cross Country Meet. It's the first girls state title race at the 5,000-meter distance. That was the fall. In the spring, Poe put even more 'distance' between her and opposing runners by winning the mile and two-mile race at the State Track & Field Meet.

    Southwest and East Compete for State Cross Country Title

    The Girls State Cross Country meet came down to two teams from Lincoln Public Schools: Lincoln Southwest High School and Lincoln East High School. Both teams had just one senior on the team, and both had a competitive top line of runners. But the Silver Hawks of Southwest would prove the winners in a close finale. Silver Hawk runners included Anna Hurlbut, Emily Berzonsky, Hannah Wolkenhauer, Taylor Augustyn, Abigail Burke, Marissa Czapla and Chloe Ubben.

    East football makes late comeback

    Lincoln East football trailed Norfolk 17-7 late in the third quarter before scoring a touchdown to draw within 3. Still down 17-14 with less than six minutes left in the game, the Spartans scored to take a four-point lead with 5 minutes left, but gave up a late touchdown and trailed by three again. With just 46 seconds left, East drove the field for a 12-yard, game-winning touchdown pass that gave the Spartans a 7-1 record. The Spartans would win the district, conference and city crown.
