Highlights of 2/9 Lincoln Board of Education meeting < New

The community of Lincoln approved a $153 million bond issue in 2014 and Lincoln Public Schools is well on the way to working through many of the projects funded through that bond issue. The Lincoln Board of Education Tuesday heard an update on construction projects included in that bond issue.

2016 Scholarships at the Lincoln Public Schools Foundation < New

The Foundation has always worked to provide LPS students with the means to reach for their dreams, and maximize their own potential. Over the years, many generous individuals, businesses, and organizations have established funds at the Foundation. Students are now able to apply online for over 90 scholarships, the deadline for application is 11:59 on March 3rd.

Sign up to audition for Night of Knights!

Night of Knights is the Southeast High School Variety show sponsored each year by the Performing Arts Department. Typically 14 – 16 acts are selected for the show. A wide variety of acts have been selected for shows in the past such as vocal solos and groups, instrumental ensembles, dances, and comedy skits. Students may audition with as many different acts as they would like, but are encouraged to focus their efforts towards one or two acts. Auditions are January 5 & 6, 2016. Sign up now!

The mass communication system allows the School District to notify families individually by telephone when school has been canceled due to bad weather. LPS has high standards for students: Federal ‘labels’ unrealistic, ineffective

Lincoln Public Schools continues to set high standards while aiming to ensure every child learns, progresses and succeeds in school. The Friday (Oct. 16) release of what are called Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals – as required by No Child Left Behind – are unrealistic, outdated and ineffective, according to Matt Blomstedt, commissioner of Education in Nebraska.

Bubba’s Closet – the annual Lincoln Public Schools coat giveaway for our community’s children – is scheduled for 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Lincoln High School, 2229 J St. The school district is asking that adults bring their children to the event this year.
