Sally G. Wysong Elementary School. Marilyn Moore Middle School. Bill Nuernberger Education Center. Jason Wilmot is the computer teacher at Campbell Elementary School, and he uses Minecraft as part of his curriculum. Minecraft is a relatively new element in education, and was recently purchased by Microsoft in a deal for $2.5 billion. Wilmot - and his students - explain the benefits of Minecraft and why it works in his classroom.

    EAST FBLA TEAM TAKES FIRST AT NATIONALS

    Ojus Jain, Elliot Sandfort and Alicia Zeng won first place at the national Future Business Leaders of America conference. The trio won the title in the Global Business competition held in Nashville, Tenn. East's FBLA sponsor is Lori Anderson. Jain and Zeng are incoming sophomores, while Sandfort graduated in May.

    East two-mile relay team breaks records, wins gold

    The Lincoln East 3,200-meter relay team of sophomores Rachel Dweikat and Alana Sesow, and juniors Morgan Applegarth and Alexis Altmaier wins the All Class Gold Medal. Not only that, the foursome did so in record fashion, breaking the state record, the Class A Record and the All Class state record.

    Links pull off district upset

    Lincoln High School baseball pulled off one of the upsets of the year, knocking off the top seed in their district in the opening round. It was the fifth win of the Links season. LHS gave up at least one run in each of the first four innings. But they shutout Millard South in the final three innings, and added three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to win 8-6.

    Southwest boys claim state soccer title

    With one goal and outstanding defense, Lincoln Southwest High School won the boys state soccer championship match against Omaha Westside. The Silver Hawks won the state opener 4-1 over Millard West, and won the semifinal match 2-0 over South Sioux City. Southwest finished the season with an 18-1 record.

    Vladislav Blazhievskiy won the 500-yard freestyle race at State Swimming, helping the Lincoln Southwest High School boys teams to a second-place finish.

    Northeast clinches state berth with game-winning bucket

    Lincoln Northeast boys basketball returned to the state tournament with a dramatic win over Millard West in the district final. Peyton Helmstadter’s jumper with 6 seconds left gave the Rockets a 38-36 win, and its first trip to state in eight years.
