Highlights of Oct. 14 Lincoln Board of Education meeting

Sally G. Wysong Elementary School. Marilyn Moore Middle School. Bill Nuernberger Education Center. The Lincoln Board of Education Tuesday considered those three names: for a new elementary and middle school, and a renovated facility at 1801 S. 40th St. – recommendations passed on by the Lincoln Public Schools Community Naming Committee. The Board will vote final approval at the Oct. 28 Board meeting.

LPS continues to monitor improving state assessment scores

Lincoln Public Schools monitors student progress and achievement in a broad variety of ways, and results from the 2013-14 Nebraska State Accountability (NeSA) scores – the piece of the achievement puzzle based on state standards – were released to the public on Tuesday and show steady improvement at LPS as well as above-state-average numbers in most grades and subject areas.

Q&A with Jason Wilmot: Minecraft - think digital LEGOs - a creative learning tool at Campbell

Jason Wilmot is the computer teacher at Campbell Elementary School, and he uses Minecraft as part of his curriculum. Minecraft is a relatively new element in education, and was recently purchased by Microsoft in a deal for $2.5 billion.
