Dragons, example of student art, adorn school walls

The Goodrich Art Club students spent this past school year painting two large, 40-foot dragons on the walls of the cafeteria with teacher Shelley Speidell.
The dragon was chosen by all the students at Goodrich Middle School, 4600 Lewis Ave., to be the school mascot and the murals represent a fire dragon and a water dragon. Eighth-graders Michelle Dao (left) and McKenzi Thomas spearheaded the whole mural project with 30 other student taking turns painting the murals.
The art club students came up with the design, colors and theme for the dragons and started with small sketches they enlarged, drew onto the walls, then painted in the drawing with bright, bold colors.
