Kabourek honored by student, UNL educator group
Gallery
Andrea Kabourek was honored as the Freda Betty Distinguished Educator award thanks to a nomination letter from one of her former students.
Kabourek is an English teacher at Lincoln East High School.
The Freda Battey Distinguished Educator Award is given each year to an exemplary Nebraska secondary school teacher and only students at UNL College of Education and Human Sciences may make nominations.
Emma Feldman felt Kabourek deserved the honor, and wrote the following:
“Mrs. Kabourek is one of the greatest teachers that I have ever had! Her enthusiasm towards writing made me want to work that much harder on my own writing. Kabourek is also one of the strongest people that I know. Not only does she spend all day with high school students (scary) she has battled cancer not once but twice. She makes the best of every situation! I had Mrs. Kabourek three times. Junior year for creative writing and senior year for advanced creative writing, and journalism. Everything we did in class we could relate to every day life. Even when Kabourek was unable to be in the classroom at some points in my time with her she always made sure to keep us updated and encouraged for us to e-mail her about anything. Mrs. Kabourek is an outstanding teacher and should be recognized for all that she does.”
The photos in the gallery are from the honors ceremony earlier this month.
