The H1N1 flu virus was first detected in people in the United States in April of this year. By June, the World Health Organization announced a pandemic of 2009 H1N1 flu was underway. As of late August, three Nebraskans had died from H1N1 and numerous cases have been reported in the state.
“Flu Facts,” airing on NET, examines how the H1N1 virus will affect Nebraskans. The production airs Monday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. CT on NET1 and NET-HD. The hour-long program will be rebroadcast on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 9 p.m. CT and Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. CT on NET1 and NET-HD.
A panel of medical and public policy experts will describe the medical science behind the virus; what to expect during this flu season; what individuals should do if they catch the flu, including a discussion of vaccines; and implications for schools, businesses and other entities that may be impacted by the virus.
The program is hosted by NET Television producer/reporter Mike Tobias and was videotaped before an audience at Lincoln North Star High School.
The “Flu Facts” panel includes: Dr. Susan Gourley, superintendent, Lincoln Public Schools; Dr. Peter Iwen, associate professor, Department of Pathology and Microbiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and associate director of the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory; Dr. Robert Rhodes, family practice physician, Lincoln; and Dr. Joann Schaefer, Nebraska’s chief medical officer.
“Flu Facts” is a production of NET Television. NET1 and NET-HD are part of NET Television, a service of NET. A complete program schedule is available online at www.netnebraska.org.
