MOSAIC, the only annual display of multicultural literature in Nebraska, opens Wednesday, October 7, at the Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) District Office located at 5901 O Street. The event, which runs through Friday, November 20, is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The public is invited!
For the 18th year, LPS Library Media Services is hosting the display of new multicultural books for elementary and secondary readers. It highlights various cultural areas including African, African-American, Asian, Asian-American, European-America, Hispanic, Hispanic-American, Middle Eastern, Middle Eastern-American and Native American. This year, there is a section of bilingual: Spanish and English.
From 100 books when MOSAIC started in 1991, the annual event has grown to over 600 books this year. A bibliography is available FREE in both hardcopy and on CD. The CD includes valuable reviewer’s comments.
Library Media Services staff are available to host groups of 10 or more, including a presentation with Q & A. To schedule a group, call 436-1831. Extended viewing hours to accommodate groups are also available.
According to Glenda Willnerd, LPS Media Coordinator, there are plans to take specific displays to three cultural centers in Lincoln. “After MOSAIC closes in November, we plan displays at the Asian Community & Cultural Center, El Centro de las Americas and the Indian Center.”
