SUBFINDER
Dear Substitute Teacher or Nurse,
Many of you attended the Substitute Teacher Orientation where we discussed the Time and Attendance System (TAS) that will be implemented on October 11, 2010. TAS is an electronic time and attendance system that is used to record time worked and absences taken for LPS staff. We heard the concerns that you expressed at Orientation and I am pleased to tell you that Connie Knoche, Director of Finance, worked with others to tailor the TAS process to match the work of substitute teachers.
Teachers/nurses (you), administrators, technicians, and some secretaries are considered exempt employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). You can work as many hours as you choose because you do not earn overtime or comp time. Your current practice as a sub does not need to change. Because you are paid for a full-day or half-day sub job, that is what we need to record for payroll purposes.
Certified substitutes will only have to log on to TAS at the end of the day. In the morning when you arrive at school, you must check in with the office just as you do now to get keys, files etc. At the end of the work day, you will log onto TAS, select a shift (full day or half day), hit the apply default button, and enter the school location code, select from a drop-down a job code (i.e., Substitute), enter the SubFinder job ID number, hit the apply changes button. Once you have entered this information, you submit your time as approved (by you) and you are done for the day.
To use TAS you will need to know the following information:
- The school code number
- Your LPS user name and password. This is the user name and password you use to view your paycheck or access your LPS email. If you don’t know this information, call the LPS Helpdesk at 436-1735.
- The SubFinder job ID number for the job you are working that day. You get this number for each job you accept through SubFinder. Write this number down so you will have it when you get to the school.
On Tuesday, October 5, 2010 and Thursday, October 7, 2010, Computer Lab B at LPSDO will be open from 3:30-5:00 p.m. for those of you who would like to drop in and have someone walk you through the process. This is strictly voluntary and is a service being provided by payroll personnel. Assistance is also available on Automic Learning for those of you who use this resource.
We have a wonderful substitute teacher culture at LPS. You know that to do your best job of teaching you must arrive early enough to feel confident with the teacher’s lesson plan and to locate all necessary resources. You do a great job of leaving teachers complete notes so they know what happened in class that day. Both of these actions make for effective instruction and help our students achieve academically. The TAS process described above should not hinder your work for students in any way. If you have questions or concerns, your Cohort Leader will be happy to discuss them with you.
Sincerely,
Mary Beth Lehmanowsky, Ph.D.
Supervisor of Substitute Teachers
