Board of Education:
The Lincoln Board of Education is the policy-setting body for Lincoln's public schools and is committed to providing the highest quality education for all Lincoln Public Schools students. The board sees the primary mission of the schools to be the development of responsible adults:
- who are productive citizens of a pluralistic community, nation and world;
- who are prepared to learn throughout their lives; and
- who are appreciative of the arts, history and culture.
The board further recognizes that students in Lincoln Public Schools are educated for the future and therefore expects the school district to be self-renewing, flexible and capable of adjusting to the needs of its various constituencies.
Seven area citizens are elected to represent the interests of Lincoln's youth and taxpayers. The board members are elected to four-year terms and serve without pay. The board meets twice monthly, on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Lincoln Public Schools District Offices, 5901 O Street. As the elected governing body of the school district, the board believes in sharing its decision-making processes with parents, students, other citizens and staff members.
The board also serves as the governing body of the Educational Service Unit #18 which provides supplementary services such as evaluation, testing and assessment of LPS students.
