Annual Leave Options

History

In the 1995-1996 school year, Lincoln Public School offered each certificated employee the option of selecting one of two leave options when individual circumstances arose that required a teacher to be absent from his/her classroom - Option A or Option B. Each certificated employee was to make his/her selection of one of these option by September 20, 1995. This selection then remained in effect for three years - until the beginning of the 1998-99 school year. At that point, any certificated employee could change his/her leave option. If no selection was made by September 30, the certificated employee was assigned to Option A.

Present Procedures

This selection of leave options by September 30 continues this school year. The window of change is at the beginning of the 2004-2005 school year for any certificated employee hired after September 30, 2001.

Days accumulated under Option A will be compensated at $1.00 per hour upon separation from the district. Separation compensation may be received after 20 years of service in the district.

Days accumulated under Option B will be compensated at $6.00 per hour upon separation from the district. Separation compensation may be received after 10 years of service in the district. At the end of each contract year, a certificated employee may sell up to one half of his/her accumulated leave at the current value per hour. The certificated employee may either sell up to half of his/her accumulated days, or allow them to accumulate at his/her discretion. The 10 year service requirement is not applicable to this provision.

If all accumulated days are exhausted, a certificated employee may borrow 11 days from the next year regardless of which plan he/she has selected.

Beginning in the 2004-2005 school year, certificated employees who attend all three days of professional development will earn an additional day of leave as described in the Option A and Option B sections of this handbook.
