Certificated Positions Selection/Hiring Process:

The personnel selection process of the Lincoln Public Schools has three parts. The first involves the request for and preparation of the application by the applicant. To fill out the certificated application on-line, click here.  These materials are reviewed to make sure all necessary information is included.

Part two involves steps necessary to build an applicant file. An online interview will be conducted. This interview is evaluated by Human Resources. The interview evaluation is placed in the applicant's file and after the credentials and transcripts are sent in, the complete file is then reviewed.

At this time, the applicant receives a letter indicating whether or not he or she will be considered for employment when a vacancy exists. Prospective employees will have their file placed in the active applicant file. As vacancies occur, Human Resources begins part three of the selection process which is matching an applicant with a job. Applicants whose qualifications best match the job are selected by Human Resources administrators for a final review by principals and subject area curriculum specialists. Finalists are contacted and additional interviews with principals, curriculum specialists, department chairpersons and others are arranged. Principal or supervisor recommendations are submitted to Human Resources where a contract offer is made.

The applicant selected for employment with LPS will be offered a contract. Contracts offered are placed on the agenda of the Lincoln Board of Education for approval. Those finalists not selected for a position will be notified by letter and their files maintained for future reference. Applicants who may be under pressure from another school system to sign a contract will be advised of their status with LPS upon request.

Teachers are hired throughout the year as vacancies occur. In December, those teacher applicants not hired are asked to indicate their interest in remaining on the active file. Additional references can be added at this time.
