Classified Positions Hiring Process:
When there are vacancies within the Lincoln Public Schools, such positions are listed by Human Resources on a vacancy bulletin which is distributed to all LPS schools and administrative offices. These vacancies are also listed on the LPS job line and web site. At times, position vacancies are advertised in the newspaper. Applications of persons interested in LPS positions are kept in Human Resources for one year. Persons interested in posted vacancies who have an application on file need to submit a Classified Vacancy Interest Form which is available in Human Resources.
Applicants are screened by Human Resources staff. When positions become available, Human Resources staff reviews applications of persons who have been interviewed and tested (where applicable) and assembles a list of candidates for the requesting school or department. The requesting school principal or department administrator reviews selected applicants and determines who they will interview.
Because it is difficult to predict when positions may become available, an option is to consider working as a substitute in those classifications where substitutes are hired such as clerical, paraeducator, custodial, nutrition services, transportation drivers and paras. Working as a substitute provides individuals the opportunity to visit different schools and enables principals and supervisors to become familiar with applicants. Interviewed applicants interested in substituting need to complete paperwork provided by the Human Resources office. A substitute assignment does not ensure placement into a regular position.
